Wide margins are wasted screen. A scanned book page floating in white space, an academic paper that shrinks to nothing on an e-reader, a slide deck exported with a border on every side — cropping fixes all of them by cutting the page down to the content that matters. The crop is non-destructive. It changes which part of the page is displayed, but the content outside the new edges is hidden rather than deleted — so you can re-open the file later and widen the view again, and nothing is lost if you trim slightly too far. The honest flip side: because the material still exists in the file, cropping is not a way to remove sensitive information. For that, redact or whiteout the content instead.
